So we made our chopping block, but after a while, it was really annoying. There were no drawers (you had to feel around for silverware) and everything got filthy all the time.
So I finally broke down and bought some cabinets from Ikea. I bought the Akurum base with Lindingo doors.
We installed our chopping block (likewise from Ikea) on top of it, added some knobs and feet and voila! A new, fresh look to our little kitchen!
I would have to say that so far I am very happy with the quality. I love the big drawers and spacious cabinets. To help keep things organized, we also added a "spice rack" on the top of the table.
Much love,
Lauren

Homemade Coconut Ice Cream
Yes. We took a coconut, broke it open, emptied the innards, added sugar, vanilla, walnuts, and chocolate. It was the most amazing treat ever.

Truman's Hugelkulture
So Truman recently learned about hugelkulture - a gardening method in which you stack logs under a mound of dirt. The idea is that the logs retain water, so even in a desert environment, you don't have to water all summer long. We are hoping that if another draught hits Austin this summer, we can still grow fresh produce!
Here are some pictures from the construction! As always, Charis is helpful. :)
